About the Fabrics
Our Fabrics
At Fine Thee, everything begins with fabric.
We work exclusively with 100% natural materials — chosen not just for how they look, but for how they feel, how they age, and how they carry stories across seasons. From crisp summer linen to buttery silk and soft Italian wool, each fabric guides our design process and sets the tone for the garments we create.
We don’t follow trends. We follow texture, drape, and feel.
Thoughtful Sourcing
We source our fabrics in two main ways:
-
Deadstock materials: High-quality surplus fabrics originally produced for luxury fashion houses in Italy and France. These materials are available in limited quantities, making every garment even more uniquely special — and reducing textile waste.
-
Locally woven textiles: We also collaborate with mills in Romania that produce pure silk, linen, and cotton fabrics in small batches. Working locally helps us reduce transport emissions and support regional craftsmanship.
Our sourcing is guided by both aesthetic intuition and sustainability values. By choosing fabrics that already exist — rather than creating new ones — we extend the life of beautiful materials and avoid unnecessary waste.
The Fabrics We Use Most
Linen
Cool, breathable, and naturally textured, linen is our go-to fabric for warm weather. We use medium-weight linen for trousers, skirts, tops, and dresses — often left unlined for airflow or half-lined for structure. Linen wrinkles beautifully and softens with every wear.
Wool
From fine tropical wool to heavier suiting fabrics, we use 100% wool for tailored trousers and winter layering pieces. Wool is naturally insulating, breathable, and odor-resistant — making it ideal for transitional and cold seasons. Most of our wool comes from Italian deadstock.
Silk
We work with silk crepe de chine, silk jersey, and silk organza in soft textures and understated prints. Depending on the weave, silk can be airy and matte or fluid and luminous. It drapes beautifully, resists odors, and brings a quiet sense of luxury to everyday wear.
Raw Silk
One of our signature fabrics, raw silk (also known as silk noil) has a softly nubby texture and matte finish that sets it apart from more polished silks. Made from shorter silk fibers, it’s naturally breathable, slightly textured, and has a relaxed drape.
We love raw silk for its ability to look refined yet feel lived-in — perfect for everyday pieces with a touch of understated elegance. It’s also easy to care for and surprisingly durable, making it a favorite for trousers, structured tops, and dresses.
Cotton
Natural, versatile, and durable — we use cotton for shirts, light trousers, linings, and accessories. Our cottons are either locally woven or rescued from deadstock inventories. We especially love raw cotton blends for their gentle structure and broken-in feel.
Cashmere & Wool Blends
For cold-weather garments and accessories, we work with cashmere and cashmere-wool blends sourced from Italian luxury mills. These fabrics are soft, lightweight, and breathable — perfect for cozy yet elegant layering pieces.
Why Natural Fabrics Matter
Natural fibers breathe, age, and move in ways synthetic fabrics simply can’t replicate. They feel different against the skin — often softer, cooler, more alive. They’re biodegradable, long-lasting, and more rewarding to care for.
But most of all, they hold stories — of where they came from, who wore them, and how they made someone feel. That’s why we choose them. Every time.
Limited Quantities, Lasting Value
Because we work with deadstock and small-batch fabrics, our collections are intentionally limited. Once a fabric is gone, it will not come back — which means the garment you order is part of a finite edition.
This approach keeps us grounded in respect for materials and allows us to make clothing that feels both personal and rare.
If you have any questions about the fabrics we use — how they wear, how they feel, or how to care for them — we’re always happy to share more.
